“Bags-2-Go” is a domestic violence initiative developed by United MegaCARE, in partnership with Genesis Women’s Shelter in Dallas, Texas. With one in three women in Texas succumbing to domestic violence, the mission of “Bags-2-Go” is to help women successfully – and discreetly – break free from abusive environments.
In the event of an emergency, when every second counts, women in abusive relationships often resort to gathering their belongings and toiletries in unsightly plastic or garbage bags. While these bags are easily accessible, they often rip and fall apart before these women are able to make it to a designated safe place or women’s shelter. When you donate your small gently used (or new) bag to “Bags-2-Go,” your charitable donation helps rewrite the narrative, giving these women – and their children – a second chance to live life without domestic abuse.
Here’s how you can get involved. Making a tangible difference is as simple as donating your new and/or gently used bags to women in need. If you have small bags, including compact luggage, duffle bags, and backpacks, please take your generous donation to the following Bags-2-Go donation location:
The Potter’s House of Dallas – 6777 W Kiest Blvd., Dallas, Texas 75236
Monday through Friday 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. CDT
Saturday and Sunday 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. CDT
If you know someone who is showing signs of domestic violence abuse, please advise them to seek professional assistance immediately from a local and/or national domestic violence organization, including the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1.800.799.SAFE (7233) or 1.800.787.3224 (TTY).
Domestic violence experts encourage women to think about their safety plan and exit strategy before leaving a violent situation. In this way, women will lessen the risk of being hurt by their abusive partner or ex-partner. When we educate ourselves about domestic violence, we’ll be better equipped to give her a second chance!
